So...optional essay topic sharing?

Thought it would be cool to hear others' topics/essays for the optional essay.
I chose a short story under the title "The Getaway" and wrote it from the p.o.v. of a red blood cell getting away from a bat taking blood from "the host."

I answered the “Are we alone?” prompt, writing about how our society polarizes individuals on the idea of striving for self wealth, thus making each individual cut off from the other in the rat race to become rich.

I’d be happy to trade over PM if anyone is interested in reading it :)

I also did Are We Alone?
I talked about the inherent similarities of humans, proving that at the most primal level no one is alone. Structured very philosophically.

I did the one about changing modes of communication and answered it without twisting it into some wicked permutation (not insinuating anything about those who did, only commenting on the fact that my creativity largely failed me here). I tried to work in humor and a less conventional approach (as opposed to the usual cell-phones-are-making-robots-of-our-youth-and-shrinking-our-balls school of thought). My end product was a bit too long but I’m not one for cutting words (with the exception of useless verbiage) for the sake of satisfying word counts.

I didn’t write one :)

I started drafting up multiple different essays and pages of doodles, intent on writing a heavily intellectual piece that would wow the Tufts adcom with its ingenuity, but instead ended up using the Kermit prompt and writing a short, humorous piece about one of my favorite things. I think it’s kind of clever.
This is the first draft, the second wasn’t much different, just refined:
[Tufts - It’s Not Easy Being Green! (Or Is It?) - Optional Essay](Tufts - It's Not Easy Being Green! (Or Is It?) - Optional Essay)

I did a YouTube one. I linked to a slightly controversial video I wrote/shot/edited for a protest movement I’m involved with (it’s a protest against what a lot of people see as racist casting in an upcoming movie). Probably different than what a lot of the Tufts videos will be - especially since I didn’t make it specifically for Tufts - but I’m glad I chose it.

I did the “Drama at the Prom” one, in which a toilet exploded near me, and a man with one arm knocked himself out while diving to safety after breaking manlaw by starting conversation with me in the urinal next to me.

Man, that was the most fun thing to write about.

I did s short story entitled The Getaway, and it was a poignant story of a man leaving the place he came from.

It reads a lot better than it sounds =)

I wrote about the “Its not easy being green” and talked about how if that meant a person was actually green, then it would be easy because then the body would contain chlorophyll which would reduce world hunger if the gene was isolated.

Everyone’s essays/videos/stories sound so good! You should definitely post links, I’d love to read these!!

@Ivy_Equestrian Why not… mine’s here [YouTube - The Last Airbender Film Boycott – Video #20](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4A6Y9qtof8) Like I said, controversial. I had a description with background info on the application though. Even though the vid gets a lot of negative comments, my gut instinct is that the Tufts admissions people would be more likely to be on my side than their’s…and at the very least, they’ll appreciate the fact that I’m taking a stance, even if they don’t agree with me.

czech, your essay sounds really funny (to someone who’s not at all knowledgable about science) in the best way possible. I like your quirky approach :)

everyone wrote like philosophical stuff…i drew a floor plan of a dream house.

seems like i did the same essay but took it the opposite direction as ED2Please

 • the “alone” prompt made me immediately go knee-jerk existentialist WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE ALONE AND OUR LIVES ARE ABSURD.

fun stuff, i hope they see the dark humor instead of thinking of me as a pessimist

The optional essay was so much fun! I ended up answering the Kermit prompt and writing about how I depend on the green of a soccer field, and even though it may not be easy being the green (since I’m always tearing it up with my cleats), I’ve learned a lot from soccer.

wow ya’lls sound so great! I did the 8X11 piece of paper one and made a little fortune teller (like elementary school style, the kind you put on your hand and flip up the flaps to read the ‘fortune’) with little tufts related fortunes under each side

i thought it was kind of cute, and hopefully unique

This is mine:

“Do something with a piece of paper”

Cool! Haha I knew that was a Katara costume as soon as I saw it…awesome.
Coincidentally my essay was Avatar-related too…I linked to my The Last Airbender casting protest video lol

My son did the imagine if US had lost at Yorktown option. He did it as a series of excerpts from newspapers.
