So this is the year

I am going to be applying for grad school, specifically MFA programs in creative writing. I am out of my mind nervous. I expect to be rejected everywhere, but I know I won’t know unless I try. All my professors are backing me up 100% and believe in me. I’m very grateful for that, but I’m still nervous.

What if I do get rejected everywhere? I’m really not sure what to do then. I’ve spent the past year writing professionally, doing a lot of freelance work. I’ve also had some mental health problems, but I am getting that under control. I’m just freaking out.

Yay you can do it!! There’s no harm in applying this year.

I’m not sure how MFAs work, but I know for other grad schools if you get rejected you can always try again after puffing up your resume/portfolio/whatever else.

Good luck!

Yeah, I’m facing a lot of pressure from my parents about College too. All I can say is to try your best.

If you don’t get into a program right out of college then take a deep breath, get a job for a couple of years, and then reapply. My D’s suite-mate in grad school is in a MFA program in creative writing program and said that the majority of the class came in with some work experience. So if you get in to a MFA program straight out of college that is fantastic – but if not there good reason to believe you will accomplish this goal down the road a bit. Good luck.

I’ll go further – you should consider getting a little more life experience before embarking on your MFA.
