So, we got in!... now what?

@shreepriya–no.

Hope everyone has a good new years! I also wish everyone a great last semester of high school!

You should all check out the blogs at [Harvard College Admissions Homepage](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/index.html) to read up on what current students are doing and some of the things you could be doing when you’re on campus!

One thing that everyone can do is to withdraw your applications from other colleges (YPS). Since you got in to your deam school, there is no reason to keep the other applications open. The financial aid among HYPS is almost similar.

hey are we required to send midyear reports if we got accepted early??

@ HandiCapable–Congrats!

Yes, and we also have to send in final year reports.

Congratulations to the students admitted early action!

Will Harvard send some sort of finacial aid estimation before the actual package is sent in April?

If you were accepted EA and have completed all of your financial aid paperwork (i.e. CSS profile and appropriate tax forms), you should receive an estimate before April. In April, financial aid is finalized. I am not sure of the timeline for regular decision applicants.

Thanks Quillabee93. I submitted the CSS profile in December. Hopefully I’ll receive an estimation soon!

@Quillabee93, do you know when the midyear reports are due? my counselor started it already, but she has yet to finish and many, many more to do. i feel that I should give her a deadline so she doesn’t send it in too late…

and one more thing: for all early admitted students, were we supposed to send in the CSS profile before December??? I turned mine in during late January (hope that’s not too late?)

Hey HandiCapable!
I don’t know specifically when mid-year reports are due. But I am going to try and make sure mine are in before the end of February. I think it depends on when you school has finalized grades for the fall semester. I think giving her a deadline would be good idea.

I also don’t think there is a specific deadline for the CSS profile. I know January 15 was the last day if you wanted to receive an early estimate (however, the finalized package will be in April). In your acceptance packet, there should be an envelope from the financial aid office that has your next steps. Late January shouldn’t be too late. You should also be receiving paper work soon called the IDOC. I don’t know as much about it.
Hope that helped! :)

Hi everyone!

I received a ‘likely phone call’ today (non-athlete, non-URM, Australian)! So ridiculously happy right now! I can’t wait to get more info, but the likely letter puts me in a bit of an awkward position, halfway between EA and RD. Did you EAers get some sort of acceptance info package? I’m kinda wondering what I’ve missed out on (and I don’t really want to wait until April for more info, now I know I’m in!)

The acceptance packet comes in a 12in x 9 in envelope. Inside is a red folder with a bumper sticker, acceptance letter, acceptance certificate, a letter from financial aid, packets about living at Harvard, financial aid, Visitas, Learning at Harvard, making your final college choice decision, a getting started guide, and the pre-orientation programs. There is also a letter for your family about your acceptance.

Congratulations on the likely call! I can’t imagine how much of a relief it is.

Thanks Quillabee93! Congrats for your acceptance too!
Um, I guess the next question is - out of all that stuff, is there anything particularly noteworthy or surprising? Anything that would be better for me to know now than in a couple of months time?
On that note, and particularly as an international student, I’m quite interested in Visitas. Does it mention whether Harvard will offer financial compensation if we go? (The cost of my flights alone would be about $2,500!)

Heya, HighOracle. Congrats on your likely!

Regarding the acceptance folder: There isn’t anything too important that I gleaned from the packet other than the Financial Aid envelope. If you’re interested in freshmen orientation programs (and you know you will get accepted), check out each program’s website and find one that you like. (Dorm Crew, FAP, FUP, FOP, FIP) I believe a bunch of them accept applications as early as the day when RD decisions come out, so you might want to get on top of that.

Regarding a paid international trip to Visitas – from what I hear, if your family qualifies for lots of financial aid, Harvard foots some or all of the bill for airfare. You should probably check with the Fin Aid office to make sure.

J.

Hey HighOracle…definitely follow JoonBug812’s advice about contacting the financial aid office to see about aid for Visitas. Other than your flight, everything else at Visitas is free for the student (meals, sleep space, etc.). You would only need money for souvenirs and such.

Hope it all works out so you can attend Visitas!

Thank you, both of you
I look forward to meeting you both in person, hopefully!

@Quillabee93

Thanks for answering my questions so quickly. I have just one last thing I need to know: apparently the “deadline” for early action students to submit financial aid forms was Nov 1, 2011. It’s listed both on the Harvard financial aid website and the harvard application instructions pdf. Unfortunately, I was COMPLETELY unaware of this deadline, so (as posted before) I turned in my CSS and FAFSA in late January. I am freaking out right now because I fear that I may be offered reduced financial aid or none at all. Did anybody else go through this dilemma? And what are my options now?

Again, thanks for taking the time to read this :)

@ HandiCapable

I was in the same boat! I had no idea about the November 1st deadline for the paper work either. Your aid shouldn’t be reduced. In my acceptance packet, I got a letter from the Financial Aid office that told me about some other deadlines regarding financial aid. I completed the paper work for that and received an early estimate a few weeks later. In my letter, it said that all financial materials including the 2011 tax returns are due March 1st.

I would also contact their office (phone: 617-495-1581) or go on their website for more details. I hoped that helped!

Hi guys. Congratz to everyone who got in. Its been what, almost 3 months since the red envelope came, and I still can’t believe it. I come from a medium sized public school (~200 a graduating class) in NJ from a low-income family, and so I actually got a full ride (according to 2010 tax return estimates). But I was wondering, does everyone have to do the part-time work at Harvard, or is it only those who got full ride?

Also, from what I hear, mostly only legacies, athletes, etc. get admitted through early action, but I was neither, nor was my SAT score that high. My admission officer did say that she loved (underlined the word twice) my essay though on the holiday card. But because of that, I was wondering if other people got in who are not on the “stellar” end of the application pool, but on the lower end of the pool (My SAT was a 2070).

Also, I keep hearing about this FB group, but I have yet to join it, so I was wondering if someone could give me the link to it. I would love to meet my future classmates.

Hey guys! So does anybody know when we move in? I think I read somewhere that it’s August 27, but can anyone confirm? And also, are we allowed to move in before that (like a week before)?
