So what are my chances?

I am currently a High School Junior and am seriously considering attending UMBC after graduation in 2013. I am in the IB program and have been throughout my high school career. My current GPA is 3.07 unweighted and 3.47 weighted. My SAT score is 1800. I am involved in Habitat for humanity and Key Club. I really want to go to UMBC, what are my chances. Also, feel free to ask for any additional information. Thanks!

You are fine. Very good chance.

What about like, Merit Scholarships? I don’t have a lot of money and really need some type of financial aid.

You are currently a High School Junior, it might be too late to work on GPA, try really hard on this 4th quarter. Take SAT again to get as better as you can and pray.

You will get in UMBC but you may not get any merit money. You going to have to get closer 2100 to get the big money. I know the 1900 range gets some money.

BTW IB is only 11th and 12th grade. It is pre-IB before that.

Just to let you know that you need atleast a 5 or higher on IB tests to get credit at UMBC and many of the science IB tests you need a 6 or higher. You need to check your classes against UMBC’s requirement for credit. I am not sure you are going to achieve those scores with your GPA. 6 & 7 scores are hard to come by. You can get a feel by asking you teachers what your predicted scores are on your IB tests. Not sure if the teachers know this early.

FYI Towson awards sophmore standing if you get the IB diploma and gives credit starting with a 4 on tests. This can save you a years worth of college costs. Towson is better with scholarships at lower SAT scores.

Salisbury and Frostburg are cheaper colleges and are generous with credit and merit is easier to achieve.

It is most important that you get the diploma. Oh and St Mary’s was giving merit money for IB diploma.
