so, what do YOU do for fun?

haha

that's such a fun question@@

I wrote--I read biographies to learn about famous people

i might change it though, depends on the response i get here@@

is reading considered an ok answer for such questions?

thanks!

Penn just wants to get to know you. Whether it be a small hobby you enjoy or something you partake in everyday aslong as it reflects who you are as a person.

As BoredPirate said, it's just to get to know you as a person, beyond the numbers. I wrote that I liked to read, cook, bake, and dance, among other things :P Don't overthink it.

interesting
we almost have the same interests LOL

so another question

are they looking for something social (ie activity with others) or something fun but can be done alone (reading)?

thanks!

I don't think it really matters...as long as it is something you enjoy. For me, I wrote about one sentence for each activity, either saying why I liked it (ie time with friends) or elaborating slightly (ie types of books) Some of the activites were ones I'd do alone, some were with others.

wait
if its only 1000 characters, isn't it pretty short?

is it ok to focus and elaborate on ONE or should i touch all the things i like to do?

thanks CDN_dancer (im from Toronto, you?)

I wrote about 6 sentences on scuba diving, 2 on camping, and 2 on studying with friends. You guys are over analyzing the question. Just answer it truthfully.

I'm sure either approach would work just fine, just keep it short and concise. As I said, I touched on a few of the things I like to do, as did jumpman5050 from the sounds of it.

(Calgarian here.)

i see
thanks!

I like it. : ) I wrote that I do photography, traditional and digital, web design, sew, and design.

BTW, yihan.zhu, we're applying to a lot of the same schools! : )

i like typing =) HAHAH

to fluxxii:

Wow I know ehhhh LOL

but I'm an international student, so fat chance for me LOL

should i focus on just one thing, or many things?

It's up to you. If you enjoy one activity enough to fill the whole paragraph, then go for it. I decided to focus on scuba diving since it's one of my favorite activities and it's rather uncommon. But I also threw in a few sentences about other things, too.

Be honest, don't say things just to impress them.

I didn't write anything special. I know I wrote that I love to shop, go to movies, and ice skate with my friends and simply watch television, go online, and read when I'm alone. haha. And I got in :-)

Tell us what you like to do for fun.

I like to read books, roller skate, eat delicious food, watch b-horror movies and write epic poetry. I also like talking on the phone, playing computer games and watching Sesame Street with my little cousin. I like getting answers to my questions; I like asking questions even more.

I got in. :D

It's not rocket science. I doubt this question by itself will tip the decision in any direction. They just want to get to 'know' you. If your app has gotten this far as the admissions ppl are reading this question, you're probably in a good spot because u survived the basic gpa/standardized test score eliminations

What if I like to get high and watch movies and play guitar with my friends? hahahaha

I said that I like to collect batteries, write bildungsromans, and obsess over Tolkien's profound literature. It worked.

Can you write it in a poem?

Poetry is often the best use of a word limit, I find, and since the responses becomes quite a list, isn't poetry the best way to frame a list?
