Are they picking out the best applicants now or are they still reading all the applications?

I don’t know but I haven’t had my interview yet so they definitely aren’t finished

@gtlane

facepalm

I’d imagine that they’ve already picked out at least a few applicants whom they want to admit, say, about 100 of them.

@stepthirtytwo
I was joking
as in… my interview was going to be so revolutionary that it would change any decisions they had made

Seriously though, there are some candidates who have statistics or situations that are near-instant accepts
IE: Donor legacies or nationally recognized URM’s from difficult backgrounds

sarcasm doesn’t work on the internet I guess

they are likely in initial committee meetings right now. right after thanksgiving, they will probably post a message saying they are in final committee meetings. from what we can tell, they leave about a week for financial aid to work their magic

Out of curiosity, where would this message be posted?

So by initial committee meetings, they are looking through all the applications?

For schools with EA or ED, it’s full tilt reading right now.

the message would be posted on the admissions website.

for example, last year’s message: [Admission News : Stanford University](<a href=“Page Not Found : Stanford University”>Page Not Found : Stanford University)

An Update About the Release of Admission Decisions
December 2, 2009

Restrictive Early Action candidates will be sent their admission decisions on December 15.

Admission officers are currently in final committee selection meetings making decisions on applicants who have applied for admission through our Restrictive Early Action program. Decisions will be released by way of email on December 15th, sometime after 3pm (Pacific Time). No decisions will be available on any Stanford Web site at any time and decisions will not be provided over the phone. Applicants offered admission will also be mailed a packet of information — including their official admission offer from Dean Richard H. Shaw — on December 15th.

We know this process can be a time-consuming one and we respect all of the hard work you have put into your college applications. On behalf of the admission committee and Dean Shaw, we wish our applicants (and those planning to apply for admission through our Regular Decision round) a wonderful holiday season.

Regards,

Shawn
