So when do you tell yourself its time to stop?

I feel like I'm going to just burn out one day. I registered for Junior year classes and this is what I chose:
AP Biology
AP Physics B
AP Government and Politics
AP US History
AP English Lit
Dual Enrollment Chemistry
Dual Enrollment Calculus
Honors Spanish III

We are on block schedule so I won't be taking all of these at the same time. And AP Physics is an after school course I am taking. The thing is, I always feel so inadequate to everyone. My grades slipped and I made a B in algebra 2..who does that? So now I'm ranked number 4 and my super perfect best friend is ranked number one and brags every chance she gets. UGH. Plus I'll be doing FOUR varsity sports and about 8-9 clubs. Too much? Anyone feeling the same way?

Cut some of your sports/clubs… It’s better to be heavily involved in a few clubs than to barely be involved in many clubs.

Yeah that’s too much, c’mon, you know it too. What do you REALLY want to do? Pick maybe one or two of your favorite sports, a few of your favorite clubs. As far as classes, can you handle it? Not what people think you should do but what do YOU think you should do?

Uh…normal people? I made a C in Algebra 1 if it makes you feel any better. #4 is perfectly fine…better than fine actually. Quit worrying so much and don’t worry so much about what other people want you to do/what they are doing.

I would just go for it. You only have to get through a couple more years of high school, and if you have a good aim and are commited you’re unlikely to burn out.
I think the more important question is whether or not you want to be doing this much work.

“I made a B in algebra 2…who does that?”

If everyone got an A I’d be seriously concerned about grade inflation.

“Plus I’ll be doing FOUR varsity sports and about 8-9 clubs.”

Drop some of those, obviously. My school doesn’t even have 9 clubs. And find some ECs that you actually like. Why would a college want to accept someone who joined eight random clubs for no reason?

Your main problem seems to be that you worry too much about what other people are doing. You’re probably in the top 5% anyway, so who cares about your friend’s class rank? She got the right answer on a few more Algebra II problems. So what?

You guys make me feel so much better. I am going to drop somethings I just don’t know what yet. I may just focus on volleyball and drop cross country and pick about 5 clubs. I’ve always been the youngest and had to live in my brothers shadow which sucks, so naturally, I always want to outdo. But thanks guys  I don’t know if I should drop a class or not Chem, bio, physics and calc all in the same year seems brutal

Oh and by the way, this is NOT a bragging post.

Better to outdo in quality, not quantity! (Cheesy, but it had to be said)

Stop when you don’t want to do it. If it you want to have a hard workload with 5 APs then go for it :)

I think you should drop the Physics class, as well as a few clubs. How will you do the after school class when you will constantly have sports practice?

I think you will be fine next year, as long as you have good time management skills! :)

I feel like students these days don’t know their own limits. You have students saying, “I’m taking AP… blah, blah…,” and they don’t realize what they’re are getting themselves into. I was the same way, I would always want to pick classes the are better than the person next to me. In your eyes, you don’t see how much work that’s going in these classes. Dual enrollment calculus and chemistry, 5 AP classes, and 8-9 clubs! That’s a no-brainer. Or course it’s too much! Then again, each of us have our own limits. I get really stressed out and put too much pressure on myself, so my limit is about 2-3 AP classes a year. Trust your gut, if you feel like it’s too much, get rid of some stuff. No one can tell you what to, or not to have. Just make the right choices and take responsibility for your own education and not worry about anyone else but yourself. Not everything is a competition.

The class is online so as long as I do the work by Sunday at midnight its all good. And usually its just a couple problems a and some reading

@fantasy that’s really encouraging :)! Thank you! We don’t have to have our classes in officially by June so I think I will just sit on it for a moment and Gove ot some thought

^Your welcome, I had the same problem and I ended up almost failing some of my classes lol. Definitely take some time and think about, but iy you can handle those classes, by all means go ahead :)
