I heard that San Miguel has horrible dorm rooms, which gave it the name of San Mighetto. Manzanita has bigger dorms than the other ones on average, Ocean Views just like the other ones. Co-ed Dorms!!!! Alright!

Manzanita FTW!!!

we went but didnt do a complete tour so we missed out on seeint the rec center and athletic fields etc. did anyone see that stuff? what do we know about intramural sports?

don't think there is another insight day but there is summer orientation if you decide youre going to SB. otherwise you can arrange for the standard tour every day of the week.

Manzanita Village
Look at that picture, either the room is huge or that girl sitting down is really small.

That picture is deceiving and not really representative of Manzanita rooms. It is clearly a triple room, and also, it is on the up-slope part of a top floor, meaning it has a huge vaulted ceiling.

yeah it does look huge, at least in the picture, but when you get there maybe its another story, for those who went to insight day and saw manzanita, was it big? san nic with girls in bikinis out front? nice, san nic is a cool dorm too, high rise, i think its for freshman though. i think this is a manzanita room....

YouTube - My New Room

"housing: theres like 7 dorm halls to pick from, you rank them in the order you want to live in. it's a lottery system, so it is possible to be placed in your last picked dorm room. you get priority if you are in the Honors system and if you pick a living learning community i.e. scholars hall, substance free hall, men's experience, women's experience, etc.
you should bring what you would bring to any other dorm; bed sheets, pillow blanket, clothing, etc.
they dont provide mini fridges nor do they rent them, so if you think you're gonna need one, bring one.
i have no idea what cover curtains are
i dont think there are pots and pans IN the kitchen, you have to check them out from the front desk of your hall, I THINK. but they dont want you to bring anything that can start a fire like a microwave, including pots and pans.
bathroom situation: unless you're in FT, it's like any other regular community bathroom. appx 25 to a restroom. if you're in FT, then it's 2 rooms, with the same gender, connected to each other with a bathroom in between. so it's a small suite."

Actually the RA's rent out mini fridges (or thats what our tour guide... also an RA told us).

Has anyone here filled out there housing applications yet? There doesn't seem to be a section to pick what residence hall you prefer. They only ask what type of living you want like apartment, suite, dorm in residence hall, etc. So i'm assuming after the deadline, they will let you pick what hall you prefer?

Which dorm is the non-partying?

"Can I have a refrigerator? Yes. Refrigerators must not be larger than 4.5 cubic feet. We recommend you coordinate buying a refrigerator with your new roommate. UCSB does not rent refrigerators." - from the UCSB web site (housing FAQs)

Then my tour guide must have been a lying son of a b*tch.

I went and my reaction was mixed.....

Pros:
1. Went in with the Wikipedia data that UCSB has been rated in the top 5 party schools in the US according to Playboy... Went out seeing that the partying is limited to Del Playa
2. The freshman housing was nice, nothing compared to GWU though....
3. Relieved to see that UCSB takes academics seriously and not just partying

Cons:
1. Beachy "vibe" while its pleasent its not the atmosphere I am looking for in a university.
2. Realized I would probably be kicked out into Del Playa to live in second year and beyond.
3. The way the Spring Insight day was structured was infuriating to me. I had to run across the whole campus many times only to be too late to many sessions. Overall the structure was extremely poor.

Who told you that?

I agree.

Really? I managed to get a campus tour, a housing tour (in 2 different houses), lunch, as well as 2 seminars in before I left. It's a college campus, so obviously getting to do everything would be hard.

i actually managed to do everything i wanted to do. 3 housing tours, san miguel, san nic and anacapa; fssp; honors letters and science; study abroad; and had lunch.

Yea, my only complaint was that the UCen was packed. I guess I cant blame that on the college though ;). Yea, I also agree with the beachy vibe thing, because I don't want to surf and don't really want a room mate who will be getting sand all over my room. I guess I'll just have to adjust to whatever comes my way at UCSB. It's worth it though.

anyone knows which resident halls are on campus and off campus ?

Francisco Torres is the only University owned one that is off campus.
