I've been accepted for Master's programs in Journalism at Syracuse (Newhouse), Northwestern (Medill), Boston, and CUNY.

Only one rejection, from Columbia, but it was expected, as I made a mistake on their writing test and didn't realize that I had misread the question until I had about 10 minutes left.

Overall, I'm thrilled!

How about you? Hope everyone else is having a good admissions season!

I’ve been accepted for Master’s Programs in Journalism at Northwestern (Medill), UC Berkeley, and a Social Documentation program at UCSC (backup).

Berkeley was my #1 choice so I withdrew my application from U of Oregon, and just left the others alone. Got a no from Stanford (they take 8 students… no surprise there), and a no from Columbia also likely because I messed up on that darn writing test (I think I know what you may have done wrong, I almost went down that road… we can talk), and a no from UNC which, I honestly didn’t care about anyhow.

Still waiting on USC, but unless I get the Annenberg Fellowship it won’t change my decision. Final decision, of course, made once I get my finaid but I do know I got a fellowship at UCB and am in-state so the FA packages will have to be handsome.

Captain… where’re you going?

edit: I’m studying documentary, so I wasn’t strictly going for journalism per se, but throughout the process it occurred to me that a journalistic focus is exactly the thing I need to round off my experience for a more complete understanding of the art.

So, Berkeley it is for you? Good school! I just knew that I wanted to be on the east coast for grad work, so I didn’t apply. I went to an info session at Annenberg this summer and liked it as well.

I’m torn between CUNY and Medill at this point. CUNY is a younger program, but well-funded and I absolutely love their faculty…

But, yeah, about that writing test: the 20th and 21st century tripped me up. Stupid mistake, but my fingers were working a lot faster than my brain that day - I realized it with 10 minutes to go and corrected everything I could. Additionally, my proctor said it was the first time they had done the test in that format. I was expecting a list of specific persons, which is how CUNY’s test was.

I have been accepted at Columbia, CUNY, NYU Studio 20 and American. I have gotten merit aid from CUNY and NYU, but I don’t know yet about Columbia, so I haven’t made a final decision yet.

I figured it was the 21st century issue. After I started writing, I noticed and lost too much time. I thought it was rather stupid… I much prefered the Berkeley writing test. Then again, I much preferred just about everything about Berkeley… especially the financial situation :D

I didn’t bother applying to CUNY or NYU because I went to NYU and wanted to be back in CA near my current contacts. Yes, I love NYC but the doc scene out here is killer (I’m from the Bay Area).

To update, I got into USC- Annenberg but without aid. I still don’t have notice of aid from Northwestern… seems like a ridiculous process to get it. Of course, totally necessary but unless I got 90% in aid, it wouldn’t compare to the costs at Berk.

Looks like Medill it is for me… Was considering CUNY and Indiana…But wasn’t willing to take the CUNY risk…Seems like a great program, and they are giving scholarship but just too new to take the risk…

Was really keen on the Sports Journalism Centre at IU but in the end, many seem to think that it would be silly to give up on Medill for IU

sridinats, Are you going to be at Medill this week for their Admitted Student Weekend? I’m heading up there tomorrow.

PostGrad, I thought it was a really poor test as well. CUNY’s was much better (not easier, by any means, but better - it was probably similar to Berkeley’s). I don’t blame you for wanting to be in the Bay Area either.

No notice of aid from anywhere except BU. They were pretty generous, so I’m curious to see what CUNY and Syracuse give. Don’t think I’ll get a whole lot from Northwestern, but you never know.

@captain88: Nah. Not something that’s happening for me…Too much trouble to head over to Chicago all the way from India just for the Open House :)

But do let us know how it is…You close to making your decision or you going to wait a little more time to make your decision?

What do you guys make of the National Sports Journalism Center at IU?

Not making decisions yet… I’m visiting Medill this weekend, BU the following weekend and CUNY the weekend after that. Then I may visit Syracuse if I feel like I need to, but more than likely, I’ll make my decision right after CUNY. We’ll see!
