Just curious: has anyone heard from the Columbia School of Journalism regarding their admission status? I know their deadline is 1 April; however, I am just curious.

On another note, I would love to hear from people who have reapplied. Does reapplication guarantee a better chance next year?

I applied this year and haven't heard anything from them. I've seen on other boards that people sometimes end up waiting a long while - even after April 1st - to hear from them, so I don't even know if they mail the decisions when they necessarily say they will. I hope that's not the case this year though.

I applied to the Comm. Ph.D. program, but don't expect to hear until early April. I've gathered via other boards that the school generally doesn't notify before then.

I am curious about whether they conduct interviews, either in-person or via phone, prior to sending formal decisions--do you know anything about that?

According to the results page at thegradcafe.com, most people hear from Columbia on or after April 1st. I'm not sure when they transitioned to the web-based application, though; if this is their first year using it, they may notify electronically (like Northwestern did), so notification might be available on April 1st.

Anyone have an opinion on Northwestern Medill vs. Columbia for New Media? I only applied to these two schools and am in at Medill.

Intaglio5:
From what I can tell, Medill focuses more on the technical aspects of New Media --teaching you to use equipment, different applications, etc. Columbia seems to focus more on storytelling. This is obviously an oversimplification -- Medill of course is going to teach you to write, but these are the focuses, I think. (Somebody speak up if this is wrong!) So it depends what kind of experience you have. If you've already been a reporter, Medill will help you get your New Media credentials that all the recruiters love. If you are going to journalism school from a non-journalism background, Columbia might be a better choice.
