So Yale's app #s went down 10%? WHAT IN THE WORLD?

You read the post title. What's going on with Yale's numbers? Why?

People were scared by last year's 8.9% admission rate...

Exactly. People are being more self selective, and perhaps all the people who aren't self selective only applied to Harvard.

Kids are more realistic these days. Harvard just seems safer than Yale (Sarcasm?)

When people think of the best university in the country, the uneducated will probably think of Harvard. I would assume that they get the most junk applications from people who figure that they will give it a shot just for the heck of it.

I applied to both H and P and not to Yale, but that's not to say that I didn't like what I saw in New Haven. However, just from looking at this board and speaking to graduates, Yale seemed to be a more exclusive university than either Harvard or Princeton. The 8.6% may have something to do with it, but I think Yale needs to reconstruct their image if they want more applicants next year.

I don't know about anyone here, but I don't know a single person that clearly is not suitable for Yale that applied just for the hell of it.

Anyone I know that has applied clearly has the potential to go there. Maybe it's different in other areas.

i think a large part of it is the construction...makes the campus a bit messy.

"I don't know about anyone here, but I don't know a single person that clearly is not suitable for Yale that applied just for the hell of it."

I do. But then that applies for almost any top university.

what do the lower applicant #s means for the people who did apply?

Not much, unless you can get more data about the people how did apply.
