So You're Applying ED... Me Too

This thread is for the people who:

 1. Have their entire family and friends saying, “Oh you will get in. Don’t worry.” And you always respond by modestly saying, “No, I don’t think I will get in.”

Are preparing for a Cornell rejection/defferal but deep in their hearts are expecting a “Congratualtions…”

Would rather go to Cornell, even if they got accepted by Harvard, Princeton, or Yale.

Sometimes get even more stressed out when they read the insanely amazing people with whom they are competing on CC.

Has actually contemplated complaing to admissions after getting rejected.

This is a brief description of my life. Please tell me I am not alone. Cornell Rocks!!           :)

I can say I'm on board, generally, with what you're saying. #1 definitely applies to me, but I usually don't respond with "No, I don't think I will get in." My usual response is "I hope to get in," but pretty much the same thing I guess. Especially as Dec. 14 approaches, I definitely have the same feelings as in #2. I even already applied to my 2nd college. I'm not applying to any of the other schools in #3, but assuming not applying is an issue, I would go to Cornell regardless of if those other schools accepted me because I think I'm a better fit at Cornell. My physics teacher always said to go to the college where you would be in the middle, not the top or the bottom, and Cornell I think will be that for me. #4 is also true, that always goes back to #2. I haven't had the exact same feeling mentioned in #5, but I do plan on burning my Cornell sweatshirt...

i hear that...but my dad has his doubts in #1

1) Definitely applies to me. However, my friends just tell me that because they think I'm going to take up one of our MIT slots.

2) To be honest, I wouldn't care whether I got in or not. If I were REALLY smart, I'd ixnay the entire Ivy League deal and go to a school that were paying me loads of money to go there. I'm one phone-call away from being a full-tuition/board-paid Sooner :)

3) Definitely. I hated Harvard when I visited there. Plus, Cornell is the only Ivy that has a decent Atmospheric Science program. However, it's a tossup with MIT. What pulled me to the Cornell camp from the MIT one was that I had a friend who was a total socialite in High School, and in his first month at the Tute, he didn't do anything social, and that REALLY freaks me out.

4) It's nothing new. I come from an extremely competitive public High School. This year we've had almost two dozen people put SAT scores above 2300, and that's just among those of us who have taken it this year. I scored a 2200, which is totally respectable (1510 old core) back at the beginning of my Sophomore year, and I saw no reason why a 2200 would make any difference on my application than the 2300 I'd probably get if I had taken it again.

5) Who wouldn't? :)

Yeah, family, friends, and even teachers - though I usually respond by telling them to stop being cocky, and it usually makes me feel worse about admission.

Yep

True

Oh yeah.

Maybe - after all, getting sent the course catalog would've been mean, though I think that's just for if you showed interest or did well on the PSATs.

um...
yes, yes yes yes yes, ... i forget how many questions there were...but yes to all of them.

ACK!

Haha. I love you guys. I wish I could articulate my thoughts better. :) Like in #1, i was trying to show how my common response to people saying I will get in is a modest little "Got my fingers crossed," response.

Wow, still articulated poorly. Must be this ungodly hour. Bioethics was a bad choice. :) :( ;) 8)

I agree with you everything except I will definately to go to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford (if accepted of course). I applied Cornell not b/c I love it best but b/c it's easier Ivy to get into. I know i shouldn't say this, but I want to be honest...

David, that's not a good way to decide on colleges to go to.

david, i highly suggest you rethink what you just said. If its really true than I feel bad for you and angry that if you get in that you took a deserving applicant's spot. That opinion is why college admissions are ruined.

yes to all the first four, i don't know if i'll complain though...i mean i'll b itch about it but then again gotta move on, you know, it's not the end of life or w/e...

and yea, i applied to ED cuz i really like the place and its academics...i do agree w/ what mikeyc765's physics teacher was talking about... that

"My physics teacher always said to go to the college where you would be in the middle, not the top or the bottom, "

that is such a good point in considering college selection...

anyway, davidkang89, i understand your intentions, but yea you should really rethink about your decision to apply to Cornell if you value admission rate over the college itself, cuz then it means you'll probably find a better experience at a college that suits you, not your job resume. hopefully you did RD so you can rethink about exactly where you want to go.

peace

im def getting rejected i got a c in english
my suckiess in english is displayed in this post
i wish english classes were electives so that my grades are higher

Guys... I'm VERY VERY sorry for saying that .... That's not what i meant.
Actually, I love Cornell just like most of you. I spend so much time
on Cornell CC and Cornell official site and even went to New York from Vancouver just to visit cornell. I have cornell pen, shirts, everything. What I intended to say is that I would choose harvard over cornell if accepted to both. I NEVER meant I don't like cornell... I really do love cornell indeed. Sorry for misunderstanding if you thought all I cared for was admission rate....
