I love her, so I gave her a rose.

Is "so" supposed to follow a comma or a semicolon?

Is "so" supposed to follow a comma or a semicolon?

“I love her, so I gave her a rose.”
“I love her; so, I have her a rose.”

Either would be correct, I believe.

Yeah I think so too, though IMO ‘therefore’ would sound better after the semicolon, and ‘so’ sounds more natural after the comma. But I’m just one guy.

@Tigerb - The second one is not correct, because if you use a semicolon, both sides have to have an independent clause. “so, I gave her a rose” is not an independent clause. If you use a semicolon you need to get rid of “so”.

^He is correct.
