SOAR?

Can someone explain how important it is to attend SOAR? Is this when they will get the information to register for classes or is there a specific program in July as well? The dates are tricky given that we have had so many snow days, and my son can really only attend one date. Do they fill quickly?

Thanks for any advice.

SOAR is not absolutely necessary to attend. My son missed it last summer because of a school orchestra trip to Europe.

The students who attend SOAR do so to meet their new classmates and get a head start on campus life. And it does fill up.

The students will be assigned a 4 year advisor sometime in June and the advisor will contact the student via email to set up a phone call appointment to talk about classes.

If you can meet your advisor during SOAR, that’s fine but my son didn’t meet his advisor until he arrived in St. Louis and there was no penalty. His advisor was extremely helpful in giving advice on classes.

@Hamurtle Thank you. I saw that it said they could register 7/11, but he is planning a cross country trip and will be who knows where at that time. I guess we will have to see if he gets in or not. More days might be opening up for him since it looks like CT is getting another snowstorm which means graduation will be delayed AGAIN!

I did NOT go to SOAR and it made no difference to me. I just emailed my registration questions to my advisor and made my schedule from home, no problemo. I didn’t go because I would’ve missed a bunch of softball games.
