Soccer game today

How's the buzz on campus for the men's soccer game against Indiana today? Are students still interested in the team? Did any of you new students attend the Irvine game last weekend? It looks like UCSB is really hyping up the game, and it being the second weekend of the quarter and Fox Soccer Channel broadcasting the game, UCSB wants to break the NCAA attendance for soccer:

Just wondering as a UCSB alum who was in Isla Vista in 2006 when UCSB won the championship :)

It was definitely amazing! We totally dominated the game. Hope we will win the national championship next year at home!

We completely destroyed Indiana on Friday night, almost to the point where we were just screwing with them. I have to say, I was expecting much more competition!

I don’t know how big the games were when you were around, rc251. I don’t think we broke the attendance record in the Indiana game. Surprisingly enough, a lot of people aren’t even aware of the soccer games. At the actual game though, the spirit is definitely high and it’s fun.

From what I read, the attendance to that game was the largest for a regular season matchup (the largest ever was for a quarterfinal game against Virgina Commonwealth back in 2004 which had over 11,000). It’s pretty amazing we’re pulling in crowds about the same size as Cal Poly’s and Davis’s football teams. Too bad more people don’t know about it, I think it’s a blast and really highlights how high the school spirit is. Attendance was pretty weak until the 2006 season (my second to last year) where UCSB started to have huge games and eventually won the College Cup. One of my best memories of SB was the celebration after that game, it really brought the IV community together.

I’m definitely coming back to campus for the College Cup being hosted at UCSB next year if UCSB makes it! That game would definitely sell out the stadium. Hopefully they do well this year too, here’s the updated rankings according to one website:

Lots of UCs in the top 10!
