What is social climate at Haverford?

Liberal vs Conservative?
Christians or religious followers out of place?
Options on weekends or free-time without just 'partying'?
Types of cliques on campus?

Any other feedback....

Keep in mind that I am a parent, but based on what I heard from my son and his girlfriend (both graduated last May) I would say that HC is primarily liberal but that the student body is very open and accepting of all types of people. As a group, the students are very nice and low key but work hard. Lots of studying even on weekends.

I am sure that there are parties for those who wish to do that but my impression is that there is not any pressure to drink. There are things to do on campus, movies, etc, but Philly is not far away. I don’t think my own S went into the city all that much but there are kids who do.

In terms of religion, again, I feel anything goes, but HC does honor its Quaker roots which informs the honor code in a way that is unique. I do not think of the student body as a whole as possessing tons of religious fervor.

I think HC is a special school and the only real way to get an idea if it is a good fit is to go and spend a few days there. My S had a great four years. I am sure students can lend more insight but hope this helps a little.

There’s a Haverford Republicans student group, but just about everyone on campus is going to be socially liberal (there are exceptions).

You might raise some eyebrows if you start talking about Jesus in your life in class or with others and so on, but some people going to Church on Sundays. The Jewish Student Group also has a known presence. There’s also some people who are actually Quaker, and some who just participate as well (this is pretty cool [Haverford College: Quaker House](http://www.haverford.edu/organizations/QuakerHouse)).
There are always things to do besides partying, and there are definitely people who don’t drink. The College occasionally buys up tickets for theater and music shows in Philly, rents out an ice rink for hockey late Sunday nights, shows screenings of movies before their dvd release, has ice cream bingo nights, rents out bowling alleys…and the list goes on. The great thing is, esp. compared to other colleges, is all these activities are completely free. Transportation and everything. No cost at all.

Cliques? A fraction of the athletes like to sit, party and eat together…otherwise like-minded people tend to gravitate towards each other naturally.

Given the choices:
Liberal
religious followers out of place
just 'partying
