Social Entrepreneurship

The 2017 Hult Prize just released a list of finalists and surprisingly not a single team from Stanford will participate in this
global competition addressing social problems. Is Social Entrepreneurship not very popular at Stanford?

I haven’t heard of the contest in your link. I suppose you could start a thread for each of the hundreds of colleges that did not enter.

I have read dozens of articles about projects and enterprises undertaken by Stanford students in Africa, South America, and other places. It would be a fairly easy topic to google for an answer to your question.

This is a contest with a winning prize of $1,000,000 for social entrepreneurs and the rest of HYPM and other world universities are well represented as well as other top schools. By the way one of the local competitions was at Stanford, but no Stanford team participated. http://www.hultprizeat.com/stanford

You seem to be attempting to make the points that 1) This contest I never heard of is the universal determinant of who is interested in social entrepreneurship, and 2) Stanford students should do whatever HYPM students do.

I disagree with both points.

Not to be difficult but doesn’t a million dollar prize go against the philosophy of social entrepreneurship. You make it sound like it is a contest for people who want to make money.

Social entreneurship speaks to the techniques used to solve social problems. It does not have to be not for profit , so the answer is no , a million dollar prize does not go against the philosophy of social entrepreneurship @googledrone .

never heard of it… sounds like a good program… maybe it’s your opportunity to change that:)

Stanford is starting its own Rhodes type scholar program that is pushing this idea of social entrepreneurship… I believe there are also plans to fund a social entrepreneurship VC program for its graduates.
