Social Frat for asian ppl?

Kinda of planning to join a social frat but not sure about how the frat scene is at penn.
I know that penn has a lot of frats and sororities.

1.So does it make a difference of whether or not to join a frat?
(cause i know in large public school, frat party would be pretty exclusive)

2.how hard for an international asian kid to join a frat at Penn?

thanks in advance

If you join a frat, it will likely become a large part of your Penn experience. However–and that is a big however–if you don’t join a frat, you should have no trouble having a good time at Penn (as long as you make an effort to make friends, of course). At Penn, most parties aren’t that exclusive; it can be hard to get into parties if you’re just going with a bunch of guys (ratio is important), but if you’re one of the only guys with a small group of girls, OR if you have friends in the frats (easier during/after the spring when your friends will likely be pledging, but there is also dirty rush and stuff…frats do want to let freshmen guys in so they can get good pledges) they’ll let you in. It’s not like some schools where if you’re not in the frat you can’t go, or you have to pay, or whatever (you have to pay at downtowns, but girls do as well, and that’s to cover the cost of renting the place).

Student clubs also have parties–almost every club available ends up having parties (yes, even academic-y ones), so you can end up with parties that way, as well. Plus, after freshman/sophomore year, you probably will be going to more house parties than frat parties, if you’re not in a frat.

There are around 30 fraternities, and if you’re “cool” (whatever that means…basically, if you’re easy to be friends with), you shouldn’t have trouble joining a frat. You’ll probably rush a lot of frats and decide what’s right for you…there are frats with reputations of the “international rich kids” (I’m not going to say so as not to bias you yet), but that may not even be your scene. it really depends.

Also, I should probably say I’m a girl and this is based off of what I know about my friends and also some hearsay.

Thanks a lot. Really appreciate it!
Hopefully I will see you on campus :)
