Social Life at Duke (Fraternities?)

Hi,
I’m wondering about how social life is at Duke, mainly regarding fraternities.

  1. If you want to join a fraternity, how hard is it?
  2. How often do people go to parties (if you're in a fraternity)?
  3. Do many people drink alcohol/ take drugs?

Lastly, I’m interested in how good the parties and party life is at Duke compared to other schools of a similar calibre.

The fraternity scene at Duke is quite active. The school has issued policies on hazing and alcohol use. Like with any school the extent of the partying varies considerably among the frats/sororities.

There is also a good percentage of students who do not participate in the greek scene at all, preferring instead the specialized living groups.

The Duke campus is not far from downtown Durham, but most of the social activities happen on campus during the weekends.
