Social Life at Olin

How is the social life at Olin? Do people date a lot? Are there parties? I’m not looking for a party school, but it would be nice to have some of that college experience. And since I’m not asexual and would prefer to not die alone, I think the dating part is pretty self explanatory. Thanks in advance for your help – I really want to go to Olin but I still have some reservations.

I’m a first year at Olin and I was definitely in the same boat as you last spring. I decided to come here, and I haven’t been disappointed at all with the social life even though I was really nervous coming in. People do date, although probably less than at other colleges, and even though the dating pool is small, there are nearby colleges (Wellesley, Babson) where you can meet people. I promise that you won’t die alone. Olin certainly isn’t a ‘party school’, but there are parties and a drinking culture. Plenty of people choose not to drink, but just as many do and I’ve never felt any pressure when I’ve decided not to drink. Feel free to private message me if you have any more questions or doubts about Olin and I’ll be happy to answer.

Thank you! That’s really reassuring. I’ll definitely take you up on that offer if I have any other questions:)

I don’t know if you’re male or female but I can tell you this is a prime concern for many of the ladies who will be attending Wellesley. They are pretty much exactly where you are in their thinking, not wanting a party school, really, but also wanting to meet people and have fun. Cross register! Join clubs! Good luck!

If you are a minority, sucks.

Do you guys know how minors work at Olin, since it only offers engineering majors? Are you allowed to minor in something unrelated to engineering?

Each Oliner needs to do “Oz” (AHS - Arts Humanities Sequence) courses and pick an AHS concentration. Our son picked a Music.
