Can someone who perhaps goes to WashU or knows alot about social life explain how social life is? how greek is it? what would u rate the social life overall? if you had to generalize, what "type" of person goes to washU? perhaps compare it to social lives at other schools of its caliber. Thanks!

I’d be interested to know also

Work hard, play hard. People have a good time. There are Greek events/parties you can go to if you want but there’s plenty of fun to be had elsewhere, too. RA’s are very lenient when it comes to alcohol, so that’s nice. I would say the social life is quite good considering how academically rigorous the school is.

^are you a student?

Not anymore, I graduated in May.

FWIW, my son is a sophomore and is very happy with the social life. It is not the main focus of the campus life, but there are plenty of activities to do and plenty of parties to attend.

It’s impossible to give you a “type” of person or blanket statements about social life when there are about 7,000 undergraduates. There are some kids who party too much, drink too much, and fail out of school just like at a big state school. There are some kids who never touch alcohol, never talk to a member of greek life, and study on saturday night just like at a big state school. The only thing that everyone really has in common is that they’re smart. Some kids are nerdy about it, some kids are pretentious, and some kids don’t really show how smart they are in a social setting. I think about a third of students are in greek life, which can be your whole social life. There are like 300 clubs, so you can find a group of people who are interested in the same thing as you. This will probably be similar at other comparable schools (northwestern, tufts, etc.). The Wash U campus is kind of hard to leave if you don’t have a car, although there is a really cool street five minutes north of campus called the loop where a lot of students hang out (it’s more fun if you’re 21+). In addition, one aspect of Wash U social life that seems different than my friends at other universities is the emphasis of your freshman floor. Many students keep their freshmen floor friends (essentially a random group people put together) all the way through college and after.
