Relatively few Midd students go all hard-core beyond that.

If my kid is accepted, he'll do his part to change this.
The AT runs right behind our home. If it cuts through any corner of Vermont, that gets him close enough to Middlebury for me. So if he's determined to attend that over-priced country club, he can darn well walk his way to school.

RD applicant here, and I'm definitely a hiker...backpacking, day hikes, anything. I don't ski, though...will this leave me kind of socially out of the loop at any of these three colleges?

no hairdryer here. Actually, his razor isn't electric either. While he loved granola for breakfast I suppose, he's the kind of kid who also loves his steaks on the grill as well.

With respect to Middlebury, It appears that skiiing is a big part of what kids do there in the winter. But I'd guess that you'd find plenty of others like you who don't ski. I don't think it's that big if a deal.

If you get accepted and go, why not take it up? My son had only skied once (in high school) but after a few lessons he was going down the intermediate slope.

Great idea to take up skiiing for someone who has not done it before. And don't the Feb. grads ski at graduation or something? I think college ought to be about learning and exploring new things both in and out of the classroom!

For instance, My D has since learned how to navigate the T and Boston's busy streets since she arrived on her campus this past Fall. Her fellow Massachusetts friends were completely hysterical teaching her how to purchase a Charlie card and about certain "street smarts" needed to navigate in a big city. It was a brand new experience for her since she comes from a "somewhat rural" area.

I also want to know diffs between Midd and Bowdoin. They really do seem so similar. Is Bowdoin full of cliques? That's a rumor I have heard, and yet I also hear how happy peeps are there... Can u have lots of friends from different groups? Are the people varied? I dont want a repeat of high school. I hear Midd kids can be more...cosmopolitan...despite the rural scene, maybe more exclusive that way? Thanks for any replies from current students...
