I have to begin by stating that I am very interested in applying this fall to Middlebury. Its programs, facilities, level of education seem great based upon what I have read. However I have been receiving by email the student newspaer and have been shocked to read that social life at the school has deteriorated to such a level that a special student, faculty group has been formed to investigate what appears to be a campus of kids who find their social life boring. This malaise goes beyond *****ing about the tough alcohol policies. It can't be just the whining of a few malcontents if the student newspaper is filled with editorials and letters calling the social scene lacking. It seems to an outsider that the commons system is being blamed for fragmenting the social life from campus -wide to within your commons. There seems to be from what I am reading a lack of fun things to do ON CAMPUS that leads kids to flock off campus for drinking parties.

I am wondering what is going on as I don't see these problems written up at comparable lacs.

I can't wait for my visit to campus next week where I will meet one of this thread's nicest persons as well as a professor I have reached out to. But hey students what is happening up there? What can you tell me?
