What is the social life like at Richmond? As someone who is interested in Greek Life, will I be disappointed? (I think I read on here that UR's Greek Life was beginning to dwindle?)

What are the people at UR like?

Any thoughts/experiences are welcome! Thanks

crmx, without having a clue of what you’re interested in, it’s impossible to begin to answer the question “will you be disappointed?” There are a lot of different reasons to be interested in Greek life.

Okay, I revise the question - how would you describe the Greek life at Richmond? Is it competitive? Laid back? Pervasive/Dominant? I am definitely interested in a school with a strong Greek scene so this is why I’m curious about these things.

From the time that I was in school until now, the percentage of students involved in Greek life has declined. That said, I’m pretty positive that they still control the majority of the social scene on campus. I’ll defer to others to answer that.

Regarding your “competitive” question… It really depends on what (I believe you’re a female based on other posts) sorority you’re looking to pledge. There are some that are extremely competitive to get into and others that more or less welcome whomever is interested in joining them. Up until this year sororities didn’t really have a place on campus to call their own, so really they weren’t a whole lot more than T-shirt clubs that threw the occasional social. With their own lounge areas on campus now, I imagine the dynamics may shift substantially.

One thing to keep in mind - Greeks do not live in Greek housing. There are lodges for the guys that act as meeting space and the location for parties but they do not have special housing.
