Social life? Stuff to do?

I visited Villanova a while ago, and absolutely loved it. I was admitted, and decided to do a bit more research. Sounds like the social life leaves a lot more to be desired. I mean, I love academics, but I also love a lot of other things too... partying on the weekends, singing, stuff like that. I've heard nothing but "Villa-no-fun" from some review websites.

Anyone who currently attends have anything to say about that?

I’ve visited Nova a few times with friends on the weekends and it’s interesting. For freshman guys, it’s very rough. Frats have “secret” houses off-campus, and often times they won’t let you take cabs because it’s a tip-off to police. For guys, it seems like the way to have fun on the weekends is either by joining a frat, or having lots of very close friends in them. As for girls, join a sorority or date a frat boy  The parties that they do throw are fun though. You just won’t find any crazy parties out on the quad or people having dorm parties.

The way I see it is your social life is what you make of it. People who say villanova has no parties, obviously doesn’t go to villanova. The only tough thing about villanova is that there are no frat houses…therefore frat parties are held off campus. But if you are going to a frat party, that pretty much means you know someone in it and they will help you get a ride or a cab. Otherwise sometimes the frats host ticket parties in philly (ei they rent out a bar in philly and the school shuttle will take you there/pick you up). You just need to buy a ticket from someone in that frat, but there are PLENTY of people there who aren’t involved in greek life. Other than that, people obviously drink in ALL the dorms. The RAs are pretty relaxed unless it gets obnoxiously loud they’ll usually just tell you to quiet down. But make some friends that are juniors that live in the west apartments and you are set…those apts are like a nonstop party and they are almost right on campus.
