Social Life

Can any current Drexel students tell me about the social life on campus. Is there a lot of school spirit? Are there regular parties? What do most students do for fun. I am still weighing my options in terms of colleges but I don't feel like I know enough about the social aspect of Drexel to commit to it yet.

There really isn't a lot of school spirit, but I've noticed it's getting much better since my freshman year- more kids are beginning to attend basketball games, etc.

There are definitely regualr parties, esp. those hosted by frats. However, there are other house parties that are held on a regular basis around the dorms. There are lots of party-promoting companies as well, so being a promoter is a definite doorway into the party scene.

Mostly for fun, I just hang out with my friends, and definitely go into center city/old city There are so many bars, clubs, hookah lounges, it's almost impossible to be bored.

I'm in a sorority, so that also helps the social scene on campus- I definitely recommend checking out Greek Life.

Thanks a lot Cutiepie911, thats actually helping me a lot with my decision :). I'm definitely going to look into the Greek Life. I decided I was going to join a fraternity when i first started watching the show Greek lol. How prominent is Greek Life on campus? Are there a lot of students involved? I'm assuming there aren't frat houses or anything like that.

Theres 11 active IFC (inter-fraternity council) fraternities, and I believe 2 more are going to be coming back next year. Theres 5 PHC sorrorities. And then a bunch more multi-cultural fraternities and sorrorities.

I forget what the percentage is of undergrads in Greek Life. I think its around 12%. Its a decent portion of the university, not huge, but the chapters are very active. Average number of brothers per chapter is about 50. Some have a lot more, some less. Sorrorities are 80 - 100+ sisters per chapter.

They do have fraternity houses. The houses on powelton ave. are all big mansions built in the late 1800's/early 1900s. The houses on 34th aren't bad, they're duplexes which are split between fraternity on one side/sorrority on the other.

All but two of the IFC fraternities have official houses. Sigma Alpha Mu which is just coming back this year doesn't have one yet, and Phi Psi, has an "unofficial" house. The multi-cultural fraternities don't have official houses either. Most fraternities have secondary "satellite houses" which are basically just a bunch of guys from the same fraternity living together in off-campus houses .
