This discussion has been beaten into the ground so many times. It’s always the same people answering; some of them absolutely love life at Emory, some of them really hate it, and a couple love some stuff and hate other stuff. Rather than repeating everything and getting into the same disagreements that we always do, just read some old threads and you’ll find everything anyone could ever tell you here.

The obvious take away from all of the social life threads over the 4 years I’ve been at Emory is that how much you’ll like Emory depends on your own personality, values, and behavior. I think Emory kids tend to interpret their own mismatched characteristics as Emory’s flaws and will therefore tell you all about these flaws as if everyone has the same experience. But you’ll find people who actually really love the same aspect someone else described as a flaw. For example, some people complain about the lack of political activity among Emory students and interpret that as meaning we’re disconnected, apathetic, and maybe even spoiled. But the reality is just about everyone here keeps up with the news, has well thought out opinions, and volunteers. It’s just a case of someone that probably wanted a school full of more vocal political activists, but colorful demonstrations are rare here because that kind of behavior doesn’t usually appeal to the type of personality that Emory attracts…if that makes any sense. You see how it’s more of a mismatch than a flaw on either side?

My point is, when you’re reading the hundreds of posts on life at Emory, try to find out about the personalities and values of kids that like it here, and see how much they overlap with you. If you don’t see a lot of overlap, you’re probably gonna clash. If you do, then you’ll probably have a great time here. Everything else is worthless noise.

Well said; probably one of the best pieces of advice I’ve read on here.

Best possible answer. Couldn’t possibly anything more.
