social scene

how hard is it to meet people? Im going to be a possible soph transfer, prob not gonna get on campus housing either so?

whats the party scene? bars? frats? house parties?

allot of indian/asians?

lol there is a sorority for indian man
u will meet lots of ur brothers there

the party scene definitely centers around frats (this goes for house parties too for the most part) and the bars if you're into that scene and have a halfway decent fake ID. living off-campus does make it hard to meet people, so if you want to get involved, join a club or something of interest to you, or get involved with greek life.

a sorority is for females dip****, a frat is for males and the south asian frat is Sigma Beta Rho(planning on joining myself). hoping to head to UMCP too, freshman though

india, sigma beta rho is a great frat, but there's also iota nu delta you might be interested in checking out (and possibly others, but that was another south asian one that came to mind).

yeh ive heard about Iota nu Delta, but my cousin is in Sigrho and i know a lot of the sigrho guys from FL soo prob going to end up doing sigrho, sigrho is also far larger than iota nu delta.

after being here as a freshman for a semester, i've noticed a LOT of dorm parties, frat parties, and...frat parties. all us young ones don't have fake IDs yet, so no bars.

and i'm an asian. with asian friends. so there's a good amount of asians. and i've seen indians too. umd is pretty diverse.

there are LOTS of Indians.

my brother is part of an Indian frat(Iota Delta Nu) there and says umd is pretty much infested with desis haha.

Sigrho is better the Iota Delta Nu, more diversity and larger

and just cooler in general

yeah that's great

k usualli ihangout with white ppl not planning on doing an indian frat, dont see the point of hanging out with people just becuase they share my skin color.......

any good suggestions for off campus housing?

nobody was suggesting you should join an Indian frat. You asked about Indians/Asians and the fact that UMD has asian frats is a true testament to its cultural diversity. got it?

and just cuz you join the frat doesn't mean they'll be the only people you hang out with.

and it isnt an indian frat there are people from other countries outside of india, pakistan, sri lanka, bangladesh, there are some from china, korea, vietnam, africa, european etc

frat / sorority are good but they are bad too.
You need to follow what they're doing. From what I heard, top companies don't like students from frat/sor for some reasons.

It's a good way to meet people and get parties and stuff.

well it depends on the frat/sorority and wat you do within it, if your like a volunteer chair than it def cant hurt you, if your an officer and the frat does various community activities than it can help

i never said anyone was suggesting it, just saying that i dont believe in that..

chaoses, you are completely wrong. in fact, according to information you can find on many different university greek life websites (though not UMD's)....

70% of those listed in "Who's Who in America" are Greek.

85% of the upper-level executives in the "Fortune 500 Companies" are Greek.

43 CEOs of the top 50 U.S. companies are Greek.

75% of the members of the U.S. Congress are Greek.

85% of the U.S. Supreme Court Justices this century are/were Greek.

100 of 158 of those who have served on the Presidents Cabinet this century are/were Greek.

All but 3 of the U.S. Presidents since 1825 have been Greek.

so i think it's safe to say that your assumption is completely unfounded.

btw tough guy, dont ask me if i "got it", im not a fking moron
