social scene

hey everyone
I like working hard and am proud of my academic accomplishments, but I also like drinking on weekends, having an all around good time. I'm not saying I do that all teh time, but I do like to do it sometimes. I know Yale is hardly a party school and I'm not looking for one. And the same for Harvard. I guess I'm wondering what the social life is at Yale (or if anyone can tell me, at both schools) and how it compares between the two schools.

Thanks

Hey nygirl11-
I can only speak for Harvard (I'm a student at the College), but I can say that Harvard is very balanced. You can find kids who study all the time, kids that party literally all the time, kids that like to have fun, but don't drink, and kids who like to work hard during the week and have fun on the weekend. Don't believe the stereotype that no one has fun here. It's simply not true. Harvard students know how to have fun. But don't take my word for it- come up some time on the weekend and see for yourself.

All I know is that I'll (most likely) be at Harvard next year, and I won't allow the social scene to be lacking :-P.

The social scene at Harvard is what you make of it. You can join a frat and drink yourself stupid four nights a week or you can find people with whom to sip wine while discussing the ethical implications of Hume's theory of causation. One thing that you absolutely NOT count on is any sort of organized support for a social scene. There is no usable undergraduate student center and the Undergraduate Council (the student government) is populated by incompetent, hypocritical blowhards more interested in self-aggrandizement, resume-building, and narcissism than in genuinely advancing student interests.

What the hell did you just say???
