On Harvard's social life, or lack thereof?

I'm sure this was on a previous thread, but I've noticed that in the Dartmouth board, Brown board, etc., social life is a hot topic, while on the Harvard board it is hardly spoken about at all. Are H students really that buried in work that they have no time for fun? Are H classes really that much more time consuming than the other ivies?

So my main question is for those attending Harvard: What do you all do in your free time? Is there a pervading "scene", or is the school to diverse to say?

There are parties every weekend (usually). Sometimes it ranges from dismal to a really good one. There is a huge workload, but I think it is harder to have a huge social life (drinking, partying every weekend, etc) because we are all invested in our extracurricular activities which definitely take up a lot of class time. Plus, we all just work hard. We want As. We still have to work for them, and therefore, we do.

There are people who go out 3+ nights a week and party--final clubs, etc--but most people don't. But as to what xjayz said about extracurriculars: I think a lot of socialization takes place THROUGH extracurriculars. groups like The Crimson, sports teams, a capella groups--they often are hosting parties for their members.

yeah, this is another reason i want to go to harvard. i dont really care for parties all the time. i like to have fun and im not a total loser etc. but i dont want to go to a party college. i dont drink and i doubt i ever will. i would much rather spend time on academics, ec's and occasionally go to parties. harvard sounds great for that. harvard is my number one choice for reasons like these. i suppose if i wanted a party college, id go to madison. i suppose even at party college, you dont have to go, but you always feel like your missing out if you dont go. im a high school junior by the way, im not at harvard (if you havnt guessed yet.)

so you can go party whenever you want to?

wait are you asking me? or to harvard peeps?

why would i ask you what campus life is like?

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Most all socializing takes place in dorm parties. A lot of other colleges restrict alcohol in dorms, visitors in dorms (to visit my friends at BU, I have to turn in my license/ID and sign in...thus limiting the amount of people in the dorm at the time), or in frats/sororities. Because we don't have restrictions or greek life, dorm parties are the big thing. You can find good parties any weekend, and I guess you can party every night if you want. If you are in any sort of club or sports team, you can get an upperclassman to buy you alcohol if you are underage. That's the reality.

EAS is correct. There a TON of dorm parties on campus where there is plenty of alcohol. Sometimes the dorm parties are great, sometimes they are not.
