Social Scene

How is Northwestern socially? I've read many, many reports regarding the dominance of fraternities and sororities on campus, which is scaring me a bit (I'm not big on Greek life at all). Are the students up for intellectual discussions, or are they quick to brand somebody as a 'nerd' based on science or current events related conversations? I really like science and would definitely like to discuss some theories and concepts with my peers without coming off as a total idiot (note the paradox)... is it possible?

Is the student group generally spoilt, arrogant, friendly, judgemental, open-minded? I wish for a much more mature environment as compared to high school... Is NU like that?

Is it more mature? I wish I could honestly say yes, but a large part of the student body simply isn’t. I don’t know that that’s at all unique to NU though.

There are definitely plenty of people to have intellectual conversations with, and I’ve never encountered anyone judging me as a nerd, and I definitely am and look like one (albeit a decently dressed one).

buuuump.
Can anyone compare this to an LAC?

Live in Slivka. You’ll be fine.
