I intend on rushing and pledging to a sorority but i want to know what the social scene is like in general and in frats/sororities. also how strict is the campus?

we have a very strong greek scene when compared with other UC’s. I believe we have the second most frats/sororities of the UC’s, behind Cal! also, there are always a bunch of frat parties goin on. im rushing a frat next quarter too!

that said, some people tend to go home on the weekends, as they live in sac. thats when the campus gets a little quieter, but still chill.

the campus is not that strict at all. only when it comes to obeying bike laws, such as getting a light at night, and following bike paths, etc.

u should totally come up on Apr 17, which is Picnic Day. there are about 100,000 people on the campus/city that day, making it one of the largest student run events in the US.

davis is suppose to have a way better scene because its a college town and D-1 sports incuding football as opposed to UCI which is known is a commuter school because people leave for weekends at UCI you will find great stuff off campus in newport harbor, long beach,etc.

What about those who aren’t into the Greek scene? I don’t have anything wrong with it, but I tend to pursue more liberal arts interests, like creative writing, art, improvisation, etc.

hecks yea, sports here is awesome. we have arguably the best rec center among the UC’s called the ARC

our womens bball is #1 in its league!! we also have the #3 rugby team in the nation, top 20 soccer team, not to mention the amazing football team, which beat Stanford back in '05!!

Aggie Pack, the school spirit squad, also gets CRAZYYY at home games…so b sure to be a part of that…

trust me, UC Davis brings the whole package… ;)

could you help me out cybershot?! i cant decide between davis and ucsb… the social scene at davis seems really boring from what ive heard… and even you say that everyone goes home on the weekends…
i am looking for the whole college scene like cheyenne and want to rush a sorority. i would just be so bummed if it doesnt live up to my expectations… :/

@Serafina
The students here are really diverse, so you’ll find your niche. I don’t know too much about that area since I’m not really into it, but I do know there’s an open-mic night every month at the MU (Memorial Union).

google “college prow.ler”, it has good inside information about what the colleges don’t want you to find out! you can compare UCSB and UC Davis, or any schools

be careful tho, because some of the info/ratings they have is misleading and not always accurate!

The best option for you is to probably visit both schools. And, honestly, people who expect the “social scene” and the “college experience” to come to them has it all wrong. I’m not bashing you or anyone else, but no two student are going to have the same experience, even at the same school.

It’d be better if you clarified what kind of specific experience you’re looking for. Both schools have a developed Greek community (UCSB and UCD). I’m pretty sure UCD is more “athletic” than UCSB in terms of D1 sports teams, but let’s be honest, it’s the UC system… UCLA and UCB are the only schools with ranked D1 teams in mainstream sports (basketball, football, baseball, etc.). I think UCSB is more of a music-oriented type of school, so I think what it lacks in school sports is made up for with its music.
