Social Sciences

In most discussions about Skidmore, the first thing I hear is generally about the arts and/or math and science. On their website, they have a significant listing of majors in the social sciences. The course listings for history, government, political science, international affairs, etc. all list some core courses and reference a number of additional cross-disciplinary courses. They seem to have some interesting programs that involve travel abroad included in list. When you look at the travel programs, however, they all seem to have a slant more toward the arts instead of toward the social sciences.

Is Skidmore a school with a serious committment to the social sciences, or is their primary focus toward arts and sciences and simply some courses within the social sciences to round out the mix? Any insight from current/former students or applying high school students who have asked about this would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know where you got the idea that Skidmore is strong in math and the sciences. It is most definitely not.

^Would you care to elaborate on that please? I was accepted and am planning on majoring in chemistry/physics and was curious as to why you don't think Skidmore is a good school for math/sciences.

Physics is a disappearing major - gets smaller and smaller every year. I guess Chemistry & bio are decent because there are still some pre-med kids. Math, not so much: some classes are offered once every two to three semesters because the demand is that low.
