Social Work and Spanish majors?

Hi, all.

I’m pretty deep into my social work degree, and I love it. I intend to go for my masters of social work after my BSW.

In my current situation, a private scholarship foundation is paying for my degree.

I am considering doing another major in Spanish. I would have to pay for this major myself, which I am fine with, if my scholarship lets me.

There are two reasons for this…

  1. Spanish would be EXTREMELY helpful in my field as a social worker.
  2. For various reasons, there will be a gap of one year between my earning my bachelors degree and starting my masters program. I need something to do in that year, and I would like to spend it doing my Spanish degree.

I would take the prerequisites when I have room in my schedule while working on my BSW (going into my junior year, all I have are 12 credit semesters and an 18 credit field placement at the very end.) I can get the basics taken care of, and then fill that one year with upper division courses, then do my MSW.

Does this sound like a good plan?
