So I know that Rice University functions through a residential college system, which is supposedly like the Houses in Harry Potter, so thus there is no Greek system on campus, but does the university have any honorary or secret societies? I heard that most top academic colleges in the U.S. have some organization or another, but the only ones I've heard of are those at schools such as Yale which have a more extensive history than Rice.

Well if they’re truly secret then how/why would we answer your question? ;)

But really, I’m fairly certain the answer is no, we have nothing like Yale’s Skull & Bones, etc. I’ve heard of a few groups on campus that claim to have secret societies, etc. but no one actually cares. :D

However, I know that a few (or maybe all) of the residential colleges hold their own top secret rituals for graduating seniors. No underclassmen are allowed to know what goes on until it’s there time to graduate.

It’s a good question, maybe the Masters and RAs know what to do? Or maybe there’s some sort of book that instructs them. Or maybe they just made it up this last year. In any case, I saw some of it (not enough to have any idea what was going on) occurring in our PDR. So there. :p
