I've checked other web sites to check the stats of those who have been admitted to law school, but numbers for those admitted to the top law schools like HYSC are pretty much 4.0 & 175+. Obviously, students with these kinds of numbers are going to have an excellent shot.

For those with slightly more realistic numbers: What kind of chance would a student with a 3.8 GPA and 170 LSAT have at the top 5?

Those are two really solid numbers. But although GPA and LSAT is a major deciding factor regarding acceptance, there are also other factors. Some people may get accepted with a lower GPA and LSAT than you, while others may get accepted with around the same numbers as you. If I may suggest, go to Lawschoolnumbers.com, and see where you WOULD be, and go for it.

Looking at the data on LSAC.org Homepage, you'll see that several of the top law schools aren't listed in the UGPA/LSAT search. However, a couple are. At Harvard, you have less than a 25% chance based on the info for the class that entered in the fall of 2007; at NYU, your odds are good--60-70% chance. While Stanford isn't part of the search, you can check and see that 170 is the median LSAT and the median gpa is 3.86. The 25/75 range is 3.74-3.95.

So, assuming you are not a URM, I'd say Y and H are probably out, but at all the others, it will depend on soft factors.

Oh, and to me, there are six top law schools. I'm not sure which one you're omitting....YHS/CCN.
