Some College Search Help Please?!

Hey everyone! I just finished off my junior year and I need to decide for good where to use my 4 free SAT score-sending credits in the next... 2 days or so. I have a list of potential colleges (which I'm going to put at the bottom of this post, even though it is long haha). I'm looking for any advice on applying and some potential colleges to apply to that I may not have considered enough, and recommendations of the colleges on my list.

Here is some info about me...

I haven't gotten my 4th marking period grades yet, but I'm 2nd in my class and my GPA weighted is somewhere around 99.4ish? Unweighted is 98.something (sorry I don't have the specifics here, I'm not sure where I put my 3rd quarter report card).

I'm pretty set on a Lingustics major right now. I find computational linguistics to be really interesting, but I don't have a ton of programming experience (although I'm really interested in it - I just haven't been able to fit any programming classes into my schedule!) Would teaching myself some VB be helpful or should I not attempt to do that on my own? Should I not worry about it at this point? I was thinking about potentially minoring in computer science, but my lack of experience almost discourages me... I am really good with computers, just not necessarily with programming.

I just took the SATs on June 4th, so I should be getting my results back in about 11 days. My PSATs were 68 CR, 63 Math, 69 Writing. I'm really banking on them having improved for the SATs... hopefully :). I took APUSH and AP English Language this past year (and took the exams), and this coming year I'll be taking AP Bio, AP Music Theory, AP English Lit and AP Spanish if my schedule allows it. My school only offers 2 Honors classes and I took them both, and I've taken or will take all but 3 of the school's AP courses.

Extracurriculars are my strongest point. I love being busy and I won't get too long-winded with this, but here are my ECs from high school as of now: NHS, Quiz Bowl, Spanish Club, Newspaper, Student Council, Stage Crew, Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Pit Band, County Band, District Band, Science Fair School/Capital Area/Regional/State Competitions, PA Math League, Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Seminar, Seminar (Gifted Program), Youth Art Day Festivals, Model UN, Art Club, and I'm the junior council member of my town's borough council. I've had a lot of leadership positions over the years in these groups and won a few awards. So far, I've had about 150 hours of community service (including about 80 at my local library) and I'm going to go for a lot more this summer.

And... the list I have made up over the past few months (no particular order):
Boston College
Brandeis University
Brown University (I'm kind of in love with Brown, definitely applying)
Carnegie Mellon University (I like Pittsburgh. How are they for linguistics? I saw it's a pretty new major, is it any good?)
College of William and Mary (visiting this summer... not so sure about it but my dad says I have to visit it)
Columbia University
Cornell University
Dartmouth College
Georgetown University
Hofstra University
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
SUNY University at Binghamton
Swarthmore College
Syracuse University
University of Rochester
Yale University
New York University
University of Pittsburgh
McGill University
University of Toronto
Boston University
Northeastern University
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Any recommendations or advice about these schools would be fantastic... As for atmosphere, my choice situation would be IN a small city, not too campusy and inclusive. Not too big of a school either, but big enough to offer a lot of extracurriculars/student groups. I also need to categorize some schools, safeties, matches, reaches, etc... Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Hopefully this post was not wayyy too long!

Edit: Forgot to mention, I live in the Harrisburg PA area. I'd like to stay on the East Coast, 10 hours is about my limit but less would be better. I don't want to be TOO close to home, though.

1) Ten hour by car, by rail, by bus, or by air?

2) How much can your parents afford to pay?

Some of those schools aren’t really options unless you can get your test scores up or have a very unusual personal story. Why not come back when you’ve got your SAT scores, and we can give you better advice? And meanwhile, have the financial conversation hppymom suggests.

Rather than teach yourself VB, why not spend the summer looking into computational linguistics as a field so you know more about the latest research, the job opportunities, where the best programs are, etc…?
