Some comments about Furman from unbiased person

For what it’s worth, I just had to write!! Our 2 kids - 1 graduated from Emory and in physician assistant school. Other is at IU in 4 th year in 5 year program for Master of accounting degree and I think both those schools were perfect for them. That said, my wife and I just spent a long day at Furman for eclipse day there. Got there at 10am and didn’t leave till 7pm. (Keep in mind, totality is what, 2 minutes?). Before and after that we wandered the campus (never been there / never knew of it before).

Overall our opinion of the people (employees and students), facilities, and property itself just left us with our mouths agape! WOW doesn’t nearly describe it.

If Furman is on your list of schools being considered for yourself or your child, from this pair of outsiders, you won’t be going wrong!!

We got there at 10, wandered around a field next to stadium that they were setting up with tents to house info and craft activities. The asst provost came up to us and started speaking with us for 5-10 minutes!!! Really nice guy, really proud of the school and really enthusiastic. Walking around the lake, it’s beautiful and people were so friendly. They had 2 tents constantly stocked with water, they gave out eclipse glasses, they had an astronomer speak, along with the school president and things for this extremely rare event (so they didn’t have a chance to practice / work out kinks) in every respect we saw, went off without a hitch.

And oh, this was a free event with no reservations required. So they had NO IDEA how many people to expect!! But again, it went off without any hitches from what we could tell; )

And while others left right after totality, we hung around and has a great dinner in the dining hall. There too - GREAT staff along w the great food. Not just cooks and servers - they were all dressed in chef whites and took their jobs seriously. We got in there just as they were opening for dinner and I saw all the staff in white gathered together getting something akin to a rally / pep talk / football huddle before a game.

Such a nice place! Again, we have no loyalty / bias to Furman - our kids are happy where they went. But if Furman is on your short list and meets your criteria for size, curriculum, cost, etc-none of which we know of) , from what we saw in a long beautiful day, overall it’s a really nice school!!!

Thanks. Furman is my S18’s top choice. I just read him your comments and he says thanks for the unbiased opinion.

Thanks for taking the time to offer your thoughts. My D19 is looking forward to visiting!
