Some decisions out!

And I second the whole “not caring as much about prospective students” thing. I literally never got any notification that I revived a decision until I randomly decided to check the portal. And even then, the decision was hidden at the bottom of the page (and it was literally one sentence long). Part of it might be the fact that they get so many applicants and a lot of people use them as a safety. Their yield is only around 11%

sweet sweeet, hello there future class mates :D

IPod, emma, and mystical (got lazy didnt feel like typing out all three):

What more do you want from these places I dont know if any of you applied to RIT but that process has been headaches. Personally I’ve received no sort of hospitality from any of the places I applied to, haven’t been in the first wave of admissions for any of these places, and frankly I didnt expect anything else. As rather battle tested senior this might just be a notice saying this is how the real world works. You dont get fancy notices, all of your opportunities are usually selfmade, and hospitality is a rare thing to come by. I wish college being so expensive could actually put a couple thousand aside and make a better process for this all but when it all boils down you have a couple thousand acceptances to hand out and 20 times that in applications this process just isn’t easy and adding emails along the way or whatever else just causes more people to call into the guidance offices and what not. I know a lot of universities get in touch and I presume stay in touch after application decisions.

Howsitgoing: I’m only speaking from my experiences thus far with applying to colleges. I’ve applied to 7 colleges, and Drexel has been the only one lacking in the communication department. If colleges want students to come to their schools they should be friendly and welcoming to prospective students because there are many schools that treat all candidates that way. It also does not help Drexel’s case that they aren’t the best with FA, it seems like the have a max per student they are willing to give out and that’s it.

I applied to UMass Amherst as well. A school twice the size of Drexel. I applied in early January and was told to expect the decision in early March. I was surprised in how specific it was for such a big school. But in that wait time, I was invited to tours, called to update me on my status, and generally treated like a person not a number. I recieved my letter today, March 6th. Drexel is half the size of UMass but they cannot get their act together. Being a large school is NOT an excuse for being a rude, unorganized mess. It’s unacceptable.

Mystical and Emma: I know what you guys are saying. The only thing is if you guys were in the first or second waves I feel like you wouldn’t have these opinions based on the process. Yes FA sucks and as someone who is filing independent and paying for college on my money its an issue but its also a game. You can get reevaluated, call in and tell them about other schools offers, and usually get a better package.

I feel like if Drexel was like holy cross or trinity two schools smaller than it with less applicants but they made a blanket statement of we will update on march 27th or April 1 you guys wouldn’t care. With this rolling admissions process the last wave has to get their hopes up multiple times only to not see a decision which is discouraging. I’ve also received about 5 emails from the school about tours, a happy holidays card, early fafsa, and “things to know about Drexel”. All of that was a matter of being on a mailing list.

Howsitgoing: I can understand what you’re saying too, I just think Drexel could handle notifications better and reply to students when you send in materials to update an application (in my case).

Agreed! Or do it more like UMass. Large waves over two weeks is totally acceptable. But when one student has to wait 1.5 months longer than other people who applied, it’s just not good performance. Especially if the staff seems hectic and frazzled when you call and you don’t hear from them.

My son got accepted in mid-Feb. I think one of the strong things in his favor was strong SAT, upward trend on GPA, and being an Eagle Scout.

emmacat1234- I think the comparison you are making is very one sided. I applied to both UMASS Amherst and Drexel at the end of october, early action for UMASS and regular decision for Drexel. The only thing I heard from UMASS is that I had been deferred to regular decision. Since then, I have not received a single email from them. However, I have received many emails from drexel regarding a variety of things. Drexel used to be rolling admissions and is still probably getting used to being on a different system. I was notified a few days ago from Drexel that I had been accepted. Still no word from UMASS. Perhaps UMASS has no interest in me and Drexel has no interest in you. However, since you “hate” Drexel so much and have no plans of going there at all what are you still doing on this site complaining about not hearing from them?

any chance of any decisions this week?

I was checking if anyone else was as frustrated and disappointed as I am. And there clearly are. UMASS as emailed and called me multiple times. And I received a prompt decision from them. But that was just an example of a school that did it well.

Yes but I was just saying that from my experience with the two schools drexel has been doing it better than umass

Accepted about a week ago. Got a $18,500 scholarship. Definitely won’t attend. I just don’t think Drexel is even close to being worth their price tag.

Good luck to anyone who is still waiting to hear back!

@HitchFan: what are you comparing this to? My son got into Drexel and RIT (and still waiting on Northeastern). They are all in the same price range, with a similar rep for the Comp Sci education.

Interested in other schools that you’re thinking of with a similar quality of education.

If you are doing the 5 year plan, you pay 5 years of tuition and fees at Drexel of $180,500 ($36,100 a year for 5 years).

Since you do not pay tuition at RIT when on co-op, you pay $134,000 at RIT ($33,500 a year for 4 years).

Since you do not pay tuition at RIT when on co-op, it makes RIT a lot less expensive than Drexel.

Im probably going to go to Ohio State. Its the only college which I can graduate from with no debt. $15,000 in scholarships brings cost down to $20,000, which is what my family can afford. Id like to have the option of Purdue, but id be 100K in debt once I graduate. Same goes for TA&M and Drexel. So I am probably (95% chance) going to Ohio State. Also have a shot for the honors program, but haven’t heard back yet.

Accepted with 25K merit scholarship.

Unfortunately, though it’s a generous offer, it’s still too expensive. After hearing from other schools, I don’t think this choice would be right for me. Great school though! Wishing the best for everyone as they weigh out their options.

Good luck at getting into the Honors College at OSU Hitchfan!

Should I be concerned that I didn’t hear back yet? My twin sister was accepted last Thursday and I applied before her and my stats are higher. But she applied undeclared and I applied for the international relations major. Is that a popular major? Does anyone know?
