brown seems to have changed its PLME admissions policy this year for early decision, so I’m back to square one because I’m not sure if I want to attend brown if I don’t get into PLME. can you all help me out? I’ll post my stats:
GPA: (school doesn’t do gpa, instead they do NGA) 103, at least in the top 2% but probably closer to top 1% (class of 500, extremely competitive)
2400 SAT (first try)
activities: policy debate (team captain, national state regional awards), orchestra (section leader since freshman yr), research club for pediatrics (officer), beta, national spanish honor society, math team (some national awards)
i do tutoring on the side, and my summers have been split between debate camp and volunteering at local hospitals. i’ve also attended the CDC camp in atlanta, and i’ve been playing in a local semipro orchestra for 5 ish yrs
my senior yr course load: AP Bio, AP Econ, AP Spanish, AP Lit, College Calc (Georgia Tech), and Orchestra
Past APs: AP Lang, AP Physics I, AP Chem, AP Calc BC, AP World, AP US Gov
i really want to do premed, probably in biochemistry, so i would like a school with a stronger premed support system
school size and aid are all flexible, though i don’t really like schools that are too urban (nyu comes to mind)
can you all give me some reaches, matches, and safeties? thank you
Any other preferences we should know about? There are a lot of schools that meet your needs.
Your excellent “first try” 2400 is going to present so many more opportunities for you, compared to those lame “second try” 2400’s.
not really, i’ve moved around three countries so i’d say flexibility is not a huge issue. i’m just not a big fan of urban schools. smaller class sizes would be good, but not necessary.
Non-urban with small class sizes can point to liberal arts colleges (LACs). But what are your plans if the med school idea falls through? Grad school for biochem, perhaps? Point being, you would have to be careful with LAC course offerings and research opportunities and general grad school preparedness for your major. So do you have a preference for smaller research unis or LACs?
if med schools falls though, i think it would be a phd in biochem and/or mph…honestly the class size thing was just a suggestion, I’d like to have a good balance small and large
Are you international? If not what is your home state? How much can your family afford?
i’m from GA, and my family can afford around 40,000-50,000 max? they keep reassuring me that my education comes before their ability to pay so i’m taking a rough estimate.
Are you full pay? How much are you typically expected to pay (EFC)? That will determine whether you need merit aid.
