Some help with course selection (2012er)

I know registration starts tomorrow, but I am a little worried about my schedule. I'm looking towards the Pub Policy major and I know Econ 51 is a pre-req. From what I've heard, it is a very difficult class. Should I wait until second semester to take it, and take a science instead? The intro bio classes are also full, so I don't know what to take!
I'm thinking...
Econ 51
French
History 113A (The 1960s)
Either Seminar (Art History) or Writing 20...

Any suggestions?!

I think that would be a great first semester schedule. Econ 51 will be challenging, but is something you'll want to take if you decide to do Pub Pol. Starting a FL is great as well.

and TAKE DR. KACHURIN'S ART HISTORY SEMINAR!!!! (I believe she's teaching...) The course material is just awesome and she's a wonderful professor!!

Unless you're pre-med, I would avoid a science just yet. If you are, Chem 21/23 is something you should probably take.

surfaholic; "registration starts tomorrow, "

????

Thanks. I don't know why I thought registration was tomorrow haha. I went on rate my professors.com and the professor for Econ 51, Leachman, was definitely not praised.. Should I be worried?

^You scared me. My D is away at camp ( counselor) without internet or cell phone access. I am in charge of hitting the button when her window opens. Don't know anything about professors.

Surfaholic, I haven't taken econ but I wouldn't worry too much. Most of the professors for beginning classes get a lot of negative reviews if they aren't exceptionally good. (like Dr. G rarely gets bad reviews but he's really really good) People come to Duke expecting to do just as well as the did in high school and so they tend to blame the professors. (this doesn't mean that reviews aren't usefull, just take them with a grain of salt)

That said I just checked the online review system recently established by DSG. (hosted on the duke website, requires a netid to see the reviews and write reviews) Leachman actually had a lot of positive reviews. (her average was a 4.18 out of five and she had a relativity large sample size of reviews)
