Okay, like I said I'm desperate so just PLEASE take the time out of your day to help me
Gpa : 3.84
3.5 in freshman year
4.0 for sophomore and junior years
rank: 10/50 (yep! my rank is crappy b/c of freshman year!)
arizona private
SATs: 680 CR, 780 M, 760
ACT: 33
SAT subject tests: 770 Math II, and I'm taking physics in december...hopefully.

my extracurrics and stuff are pretty good: I don't think that I would be rejected from a college because of them.
What I'm mostly having problems is seeing how I stack up academically, and finding schools that would be a good academic fit. I'm not a slacker; and that's obvious because my grades are superb after freshman year: yet my rank is a 10/50. But, my ACT is a 33. And my extracurriculars are really good.
So do you guys have any guidelines for me? I don't really care major-wise. Right now I'm just a senior looking to think about the colleges you guys think I fit in academically for.

Thanks. I really need help.

We need more info. What size school do you want? What are your limits geographically? Do you want to be in the middle of a city, in the middle of nowhere, or somewhere inbetween? Do you want a heavy Greek scene, a heavy arts scene, or any other defining social characteristic?

The other factor you haven’t mentioned is cost. Talk to your parents. Will they pay $200,000 for a private college when the Arizona state system is so inexpensive? This could be your big limiting factor. Are you thinking about grad school?

There is nothing at all that you can do about your class rank. You need to drop it as an issue and move on. A class of 50 is statistically small, and it could easily be the case that the top ten students are within a small range of GPA. I don’t think it’s going to kill you. Applications are all about portraying your strengths, so concentrate on all the good things you have. No school expects perfection.

If you do have the money for a private, look at the Claremont schools - Pomona, Harvey Mudd, Scripps, Claremont - there’s one for everyone!

Your GPA is even better than it looks because of the upward trend. You have the numbers to apply anywhere you want. Figure out what kind of college you want and how you might pay for it.
