Some personal Q's about Wheaton (Kind of chance?)

Just a few personal questions about Wheaton because I really like the school and it's the only Christian college on my college list (I am a Christian).
I really think highly of Wheaton but my parents and my peers keep telling me I could do "better" and go to a more competitive school.
I'm applying EA to Wheaton along with UChicago.

My parents are telling me that I should just not apply to Wheaton and save the application money because they really don't want to send me there unless I get a full-ride or near full-ride.

So, I want to know if Wheaton can be considered a safety for me? Do you think I will get in for sure/get near full-ride? I'm under 100k but over 50k income.

EC's not bad. 4 mission trips, 200+ hours at a school for people with disabilities, Vice-President of school, lots of Christian EC's, Model UN, Math Olympiad, Varsity Indoor/Outdoor Track(2year), Basketball/Soccer (1Year)

Essay: Just okay. I'm super busy with other stuff so I won't have time to edit my essays much. Maybe 1 or 2 edits then I'm sending them in.

Recs: very good/excellent

I'm well above 75 percentile in testscores, probably top 90 percentile
Acceptance rate for males last year was 82%

help? I really want to convince my parents to let me apply

Apply anyway and see what they offer you. I suspect you will get in. Financially you’ll only know what you’ll get if you apply and see.

Once you’re in places, try to visit and spend the night plus sit in on classes. Then get a feel for where you fit in. It is your life and not that of your parents. Wheaton grads go places and do well. So do U of Chicago’s.

Have you checked Wheaton’s web site? Wheaton gives very little merit aid, nothing approaching a full ride. “Full ride” would have to come pretty much from financial aid – and that depends on income, how much above 50k, and the like. As Creekland says, all you can do is apply and see what they offer.

I have to say that your academic performance is excellent! My suggestion is that you should first ask yourself how important your Christian faith is to you. I can see the reason your parents don’t like Wheaton: your performance is ivy-league level, but Wheaton only ranks 50 something in all American LACs according to USNEWS. However, if your answer of my previous question is “very important”, then I think Wheaton suits you better than IVYs. If you haven’t submitted your application form, include your situation and show your desire of a Christ-centered education in your essays, and, most importantly, pray for God’s help.

I’d project your academic data would be sufficient for your admission. However, if they are aware of your circumstance and the view of the institution from your famiy, admission might understandably be at risk. I’m not familiar what is required … interviews, essays, specific question response(s). In any case, candor might well put your chances @ risk or at least in need of some exploration and consideration. They want more than outstanding intellect. yours is an interesting situation, keep us posted.

I confess to thinking your counsel does not seem to be well informed about Wheaton and its relative strengths. And while only my opinion, for Believers, Wheaton holds most of the aces vs. Chicago, which has a notably progressive reputation, and beyond the intent of its founder philanthropists, no Christian leanings. The chapel and its dedicatory plaque appear to be oasis-like symbols of Faith in an urban leftist desert. May God bless your search.

P.S. My own observation, is that your choices, beyond geography and academic admission requirements, could hardly be more disparate. The missions and cultures would be apples n oranges.
