ok guys I was doing great in practice tests scoring a consistent 2000-2150 and then BAM! on the January Test i got a 1910.....:( a huge disappointment. Now I find I have to take it again junior year(next year) so i was wondering my main problem is vocab and is there any standard vocabulary SAT words list to study 'cause I have a whole year to study. Please...any advice will help.

Study off of Direct Hits. Get volume 1 first to see if you don’t like it (don’t see why you wouldn’t) and if you do like it, then get volume 2. It really does wonders.

But you can learn Direct Hits in a matter of 5 or 6 days. Here is a list based on effectiveness of a few SAT word lists. It gives you #of hits on a given SAT and then the percentage of words on the list that were hits.
- Direct Hits: 400 Words/9 hits/1 hit per 44 words
- TestMasters: 254 Words/2 hits/1 hit per 127 words
- Princeton Review: 253 Words/2 hits/1 hit per 127 words
- Hot Words: 396 Words/3 hits/1 hit per 132 words
- Rocket Review: 323 Words/2 hits/1 hit per 161 words
- Barron’s Mini-Dictionary: 3500 Words/9 hits/1 hit per 388 words

You can learn it even less. The book took me less than 5 hours to read.

sweet i think im going to get Direct Hits then :)

Saxsy, you’re trying to tell me that you read and comprehended a vocabulary book consisting of 400 words in less than 5 hours?

Hahah my bad. I should have been more clear. I finished volume 1 in 5 hours. Volume 2 on the other hand…I had to take my time. That took me 5-6 days.
