Some secrets for getting off to a good start this Fall

I remember this posting. A ton of sound advice.

What a great, great post. I printed it out for my d. The one thing I would add: To the end of #7 “If someone tells you a secret, keep it…” I’d add “UNLESS someone is possibly at risk. Then you need to seek support.”

This list is a good road map for a happy boarding school experience. I like points 7 and 9 especially. Kindness to all, avoiding humor at other people’s expense, and laughing at your own foibles…these traits will not only make BS a great experience but are worthy habits for a lifetime.

This is so helpful! I’m actually going to a new day school, but a lot of the advice is still really amazing!! So glad I found this thread…time to go make a poster too!

Re-posting for September 2013

Thanks!! I’ll read this again and again until Aug28 :)

Bumping this for all new students

I’ve been really homesick (It’s only my first real day on campus) I am have been crying constantly and I just needed to hear that it was normal so thank you for that :)

InvalidEntry, what school are you at?

I like validentry more because you are honest and open. Like Rebel said, most new students and even some sophomores feel homesick. It goes away bit by bit. Join a couple of groups that interest you. This helps establish early friendships. Do your best to wear a smile around campus. The more positive energy you put in to your environment the more you get back. It’s the law of attraction.

All of us parents and kids on CC send you the best of luck for a great year!

Bump! Thanks a lot, @rebelangel and @ThacherParent. One of the best, if not the best, advice!

This is great! Thanks!

Awesome post!
