somebody help convince me that wesleyan was the right decision!

got off the waitlist at Wash U in St. Louis; accepted into biomedical engineering

this is a really hard decision for me because i want to do premed and biomedical engineering.
wash u has it and if i go to wesleyan i will do their 3-2 program where i will in 3(or 4) years get a BA in bio or neuroscience from wesleyan and get BS in 2 years from columbia (fu) or caltech so the 2 are equal in that aspect

in the research aspect wash u 100% has more cutting edge research as its a national university; however high level research at wesleyan is done and there is more MUCH accessibility to undergrads since theres ~200 grad students as opposed to 6500 grad students at wash u.

somebody please me reassure me that i made the right choice; half of me is telling me to pull out of wes and take up the wash u waitlist offer

You made the right decision. You can get the huge national university environment at Columbia/Caltech when you go there for the 3-2 program (and in grad school, should you choose to go). You only get the small, intimate liberal arts college experience once, and should you choose to forego it now, that’s it. Plus, Wesleyan, as you said, actually does have high level research. It’s a liberal arts college with grad students - what better mix is there? You work in the intimate setting of a liberal arts college, but alongside PhD students. Not too shabby. Go to WashU for grad school.

It is always risky to advise someone on what to do with their lives, but I would say, from a resume standpoint, to have both a Wesleyan and a Columbia undergraduate degree positions you better for medical school or grad school. And I am just guessing that in addition to studying hard, you’d like to develop some other interests, maybe get to know your professors really well so they can write you informed and detailed references for med school, and Wesleyan would probably be a better bet there.Good luck to you!
