defintiely use the red book. i did the 3 practices tests in there and got a 31 first try. but then in feb, i didn't prep at all..and got a 29 ...so the red book is very good.

LOL I know! Asain parents are so reluctent on how education was like back at home LOL. (yes I am Asian too so I know :))

Thanks on that info smart99. Right now I have PR, the red book, baerons, and kaplans.

yeah, but I really don't fit the stereotypical asian though, haha. I have a low gpa, haha.

LOL I fit in the stereotypical asian lols 4.05 gpa at the moment. If I get all A's during high school I should have around 4.4 to 4.5 (haven't done the math yet :()

nice. I am really lazy and procrastinate a lot. So thats probably the reason for my low 3.4.

That's not too bad. I hope I can maintain my GPA and get at 30-32 on the next ACT so I can get into the college that I want to go to. My top 5 colleges are:

Duke (I <3 Duke :))

Any Ivy League (:D)

John Hopkins

Texas Univ. at Austin

Kansas University (as a last resort..:()

nice. I'm justing aiming for my home state schools (UC's and CSU's).lol.

question:

i know this is unethical, but can i not simply create a new account
and retake the act? in that way, i'll have act taken only once, and it'll be a good score

Hmm... I don't know if it'll work. When you sign up again, won't the 2 accounts have the same name/number/address?

yeah but if that's the only problem,
i can ask my friend for their address

I would rethink for awhile. What if colleges find out?

that would be a problem haha
yeah so i guess i'll go to bed,
go to church and come back tomorrow to see what other people think.

why did you take this test so early?

All scores are sent and you really want to have a big jump not a pile of little jumps, SO, I would not take again until late Jr or early Sr year. You will do LOTS better by then. Also the ACT is a reading test mostly. Practice reading and retaining what you read - and you WILL get better at this as you go. You can also practice this test.

Plan also on taking the SATs in Jr year. Some who do not shine on the ACTs do quite well on the SATs

best of luck

I only took this test early because my teachers thought I should he some experience. Then I retook it in Dec. Because my parents made me (Asian parents :(). on this Feb. One I jumed 3 points which is pretty good. My parents want me to take ALL of the tests from now on until early senior year unless I get a 30 or higher between now and then. Yeah I know the test is boring but it doesn't really effect me much anymore. I understand that colleges don't look at you as seriously if you tale the Act 7 times and get a 32. Nonetheless, I'm pretty sure that my ALL of my top four coleges (listed above) won't turn me down. Nothings certain I guess and hey take all of of other things into a decision I guess. Well thanks foryoir input guys and Cougar I don't think you should risk it because there are many colleges out there that don't care how many times you have taken it.

So does anyone have tips for the reading section? Anything is greatly appreciated.

read the books REAL ACT recommends so you can recognize the aspects of appropriate prose...
or i would really suggest waiting until youre a junior to test, by that point you should be well-read enough to test well

Alright thanks rocket. Waiting until next year isn't really an option for me (Asian parents omg :(). I'll try the red book. I have Barrons, Kaplans, and PR also. Anyways, thanks rocket.

i really think Real ACT is a god, my book was from 1992 and still helped
and no prob Galib..sorry about your Asian parents

Don't have patience to read this entire thread.....so you know, ACT requires you to pick a test date when you send your scores...Unless something has changed since last year, they do not send all your dates on the same report even if you wanted them to.??...assuming, therefore, that you have to pay individually for each date for each school, you are talking about a pretty penny if you, in particular, are supposed to send all your scores from all ACT's......
