Something productive to do over the summer?

I am currently a high school freshman but I have high goals for the colleges I want to attend in the future so I want to make the most of my summers. I was just rejected from a merit based scholarship to study abroad in China over the summer (NSLIY) after making it to the semifinalist round, and I’m now at a loss for what I want to do over the summer. I am generally interested in biology (I missed USABO semis by 2 questions :frowning: ) and language, having self-taught German for a year and learning Chinese at school. I am also somewhat interested in computer science.

So far I’m planning to brush up a little on my German and Chinese, study for the SAT and Science Olympiad, and maybe do a little bit of community service. This doesn’t seem like enough to keep me busy for the summer but the deadline for many summer programs has already passed and I am too young to do most internships. Does anyone have any good recommendations on what to do? Thanks in advance.

take a class in German/Chinese

Ole Miss STARTALK would be good, and give you a boost in your App if you are planning on applying to NSLIY again. I got rejected from NSLIY last year as a freshman but this year am a finalist
