Son admitted to Class of '26, what should I know now

My son was recently admitted to pre-engineering at Iowa State for the Class of '26 through the Cyclone Advantage Program. We will be touring campus late next month. Is there anything I should know in particular prior to touring, should do for the tour, or about ISU in general? Thanks.

I don’t know much about Iowa State other than the fact that they have a well regarded engineering program and a National Lab. I wouldn’t have any fears about his education.

If he isn’t the super communicative type, start laying the groundwork for weekly FaceTime chats. We did that with our son and still do to this day. He’s been out and in the workforce for 2 years.

Have fun!

My Son applied over the weekend and got the admission letter by email. I do not see the major he is admitted to, in the email. Does Iowa state admit by major or just to the college?
I can ask him to login and check if there is more information in the portal.

Do they also send acceptance package in the regular mail?

They send an acceptance letter by mail. A separate snail mail arrives a few weeks later with scholarship info. I don’t remember if they accept direct into the major.
