<p>Diffferences? Similarities? What are the tryouts like for both teams? Do they both perform at every single game? How are they going to be affected with the NCAA sanctions? I'm interested in trying out for one of these two but I'd like some feedback from you all first. </p>

<p>in simple terms, song girls dance&cheer (dancing is what theyre known for), and spirit leaders gear their efforts only towards cheering and pumping up the crowd</p>
<p>song girls are arguably more popular than the spirit leaders, probably because their parts are more difficult and because they’ve been around a lot longer. if you have an intense dance background, you may be competitive to be a song girl. most of the girls have been dancing since they were young. besides this, you have to be charismatic and you also have to be pretty attractive (no offense meant to anyone, just being realistic).</p>
<p>spirit leaders only cheer (no dance and stunts), so they are looking more for personality and ability to have that contagious spirit. this is ideal if you have minimal or no dance background, but were a cheerleader or could have been.</p>
<p>as for tryouts, check their websites for good information as to what to expect:

<p>i’m pretty sure both squads perform at every football game, home and away, and also at other sports games (so I doubt they will be affected much, if at all, with the ncaa sanctions, save not being able to perform at a bowl 
)
